Daily Sports Recap (Thanksgiving)

NFL

Tom Brady had a perfect Passer Rating for the game going 21-27 for 341 yards and four Td’s as the Patriots beat the Lions 45-24. The Lions took the early lead and led at the half but costly turnovers in the second half helped the Patriots take over. The Lions lost their seventh straight on Thanksgiving and third to the Patriots since 2000. Patriots stay atop the AFC East at 9-2 while the Lions drop to 2-9 and last in the NFC North.

David Bueler’s 59 yard field goal try was just short as the Saints beat the Cowboys 30-27 in Arlington. Dallas was down 17-0 after the first quarter but climbed back and took the lead 27-23 with 5 minutes left in the game. Drew Brees quickly led the Saints on an 89 yard drive to take back the lead and secure the win for Saints. Saints move to 8-3 on the season while the Cowboys fall to 3-8 and 2-1 under Jason Garrett.

Brad Smith had two touchdowns on the night to help the Jets get past the Bengals 26-10. Bengals kept it close then took the lead off of a Carson Palmer touchdown pass to Jordan Shipley to take the 7-3 lead going into half. After that Brad Smith took over with a 53 yard reverse and then a 89 yard kickoff, with one cleat on, to the end zone. Darrelle Revis and the rest of the defense stepped up to finish it off causing three turnovers and a safety. Jets move to 9-2 on the season and Bengals drop to a pathetic 2-9.

Football

Running back Cyrus Gray rushed for 223 yards and two scores to help #17 Texas A&M get past instate rival Texas. Texas A&M’s win gave Texas their first losing season since 1997 after their loss while Texas A&M 
advanced to 9-3.

NBA

Hawks beat the Wizards 116-96 to end a three game skid. Joe Johnson had 21 points, Josh Smith added 20 and 14 rebounds, and Al Hortford had 15 and 13 boards. Gilbert Arenas had a team high 21 points for the Wizards.

Eric Gordon had a game high 28 as the Clippers get their second straight win, this time over the Kings 100-82. Blake Griffin had another big game with 25 points and 15 rebounds for the Clippers. Carl Landry led the Kings with 18 points. 

College Basketball

California upset #20 Temple 67-60 in the Old Spice Classic thanks to a 16-1 run in the second half. Harper Kamp led the Golden Bears with 13 points.

Notre Dame beat Georgia 89-83 in double overtime. Tim Abromaitis had a game high 25 points and Tyrone Nash added 18 for the Fighting Irish while Travis Leslie led the Bulldogs with 23.

Reggie Jackson’s 21 points help lead Boston College past Texas A&M 67-65. Khris Middleton led the Aggies with 19 points.


NHL

Martin Gerber’s 35 saves and Taylor Hall’s goal with 29 seconds left helped the Oilers get past the Avalanche 3-2.
