Tuesday Sports Recap



NBA

Cavaliers fall to a Pacer team led again by Danny Granger who had 25 points in the 100-89 win. Antawun Jamison had a double double 12 points 10 boards for the Cavaliers.

Nets get past the Hawks 107-101 in overtime. The Nets were led by forward Brook Lopez who had 32 points on the night and 9 rebounds. The Nets move to 5-9 on the season. Much better than last year’s 0-17 start.

Nick Young’s three in the final seconds of overtime help the Wizards beat the 76ers 116-114. The Wizards JaVale McGee had 24 points and a career high 18 boards while John Wall also added 25 points for the Wizards. Andre Iguodala almost had a triple double, 24 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists, for the 76ers.

The New York Knicks won their fourth straight as they beat the Bobcats 110-107. The Bobcats were led by D.J. Augustin with 24 points and Toney Douglas led the Knicks with 22.

Dirk’s 42 points and 12 rebounds help the Mavericks beat the Pistons 88-84. Tayshaun Prince and Rodney Stuckey had 19 a piece for the Pistons.

Lakers use a huge 16-2 run in the 4th quarter to overcome Derrick Rose and the Bulls 98-91. Shannon Brown and Lamar Odom each had 21 points; Kobe Bryant added 20 and Pau Gasol had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Lakers. For the Bulls Derrick Rose had a game high 30 points, Taj Gibson had 16 points and 12 rebounds and Joakim Noah had 19 and 13 boards.

NCAA Basketball

Coach K got his 800th win as #1 Duke beat #4 Kansas St 82-68. Guards Kyrie Irving and Nolan Smith led the Blue Devils is 17 points apiece. Duke held Jacob Pullen to 1-12 shooting with 4 points. Duke moves to 5-0 while Kansas St falls to 4-1.

After barely escaping Chaminade last night #2 Michigan St fell to UConn in Maui 70-67 today. UConn guard Kemba Walker had another huge night for the Huskies, he had 30 points and Huskies Center Alex Oriakhi had 15 points and 17 rebounds. Michigan St was led by Draymond Green who had 22 points and 12 rebounds.

John Diebler’s 20 points help #3 Ohio St get past Morehead St. Kenneth Farried had 15 points and 12 rebounds in a losing effort.

#5 Pittsburgh advances to 6-0 as they beat Robert Morris 74-53. Ashton Gibbs had a game high 20 points and Gary McGee had 11 points and 12 boards. Russell Johnson led Robert Morris with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

#8 Kansas doubles up Texas A&M-CC 82-41. Sophomore Forward Thomas Robinsion had a game high 15 points in the win.

JaWaun Johnson had another double double as #8 Purdue get past Austin Peay 87-65. Johnson’s 21 points and 11 boards help secure the win while John Fraley had 11 points and 13 rebounds for Austin Peay.

Led by their star freshmen #9 Kentucky got past #11 Washington 74-67 and advanced to the Maui finals to take on UConn. Brandon Knight had a game high 24 and Terrence Jones had 16 points and 17 rebounds for the Wildcats. Isaiah Thomas led Washington with 13 points.

Missouri gets by Wyoming 72-62 with help from Michael Dixon’s game high 17 points.

Kenny Boynton had 21 points and Alex Tyus added 19 as #14 Florida got past Florida Atlantic 79-66. Florida Atlantic did have 5 players in double digits.

#15 Memphis gets over the Century mark as they beat Tennessee- Martin 102-80. Memphis was led by Will Barton and Will Colemen, who each had 20 points. Tennessee-Martin’s Reuben Clayton had 20 points and 10 boards.

#18 Gonzaga barely got past Marquette 66-63. Senior Steven Gray led the Bulldogs with 20 points and Jimmy Butler led Marquette with 20 points.

#19 Illinois ran by Yale 73-47. D.J. Richardson had 16 points to lead the Illini and Mike Tisdale added 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Sophomore Jordan Hamilton again leads #21 Texas as they beat Sam Houston St 84-50. Hamilton had a game high 24 points for the Longhorns.

Siena took an early lead but #23 Butler bounced back to win 80-67. Matt Howard had a big game for the bulldogs as he scored 17 and grabbed 12 rebounds. Siena Forward Ryan Rossiter had a game high 26 points.

#25 North Carolina avoids losing three straight as they beat North Carolina-Ashville 80-69. Tyler Zeller had 23, John Henson had 10 points 11 rebounds and freshman Harrison Barnes added 13 for North Carolina.  Ashville was led by J.P. Primm, who had 21 points.

Mike Scott’s 27 points and 15 rebounds help Virginia advance in Maui as they beat Oklahoma 74-56. They will play Wichita St in the Consolation Bracket final.

NHL

Phoenix wins their 7th straight as they shutout the Oilers 5-0. Martin Hanzel and Lee Stempniak both had two goals in the win for Phoenix.
